Toyota Invests $3.6 Billion to Expand San Antonio Plant, Creating 2,000 New Jobs

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced a historic $3.6 billion investment to expand its San Antonio manufacturing campus, bringing 2,000 new high-quality jobs to the region and positioning the Alamo City for continued growth in advanced manufacturing.

The expansion will add approximately 2.5 million square feet to the Toyota Texas campus, doubling its footprint by 2030. The investment also includes a second vehicle assembly line that will support production of the Toyota Tacoma alongside the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia.

Over the next four years, Toyota plans to transition Tacoma production from its Baja California manufacturing facility to San Antonio, further strengthening Texas as a key hub for the company’s North American operations.

“Toyota’s continued investment in North America is a testament to our confidence in the region’s workforce, innovation and long-term growth potential,” said Ted Ogawa, President and CEO of Toyota Motor North America. “By expanding our San Antonio plant, we are deepening our commitment to American manufacturing, creating meaningful and sustainable jobs while advancing our mission to deliver high-quality vehicles that meet the changing needs of customers today and into the future.”

The announcement represents one of the largest manufacturing investments in San Antonio’s history and brings Toyota’s total investment in the city to $8.3 billion since construction of the plant began in 2003.

The campus was originally built with future expansion in mind, according to Frank Voss, Group Vice President of Truck Manufacturing for Toyota Motor North America and President of Toyota Texas.

“We are so proud of Team Texas and what they have accomplished over the past two decades,” Voss said. “The 2,000 acres of South Texas ranchland our plant stands on today were purposefully selected for their ability to scale with vehicle demand, and today marks the first step toward realizing that potential.”

The expanded campus will feature advanced manufacturing technologies designed to increase production flexibility while supporting Toyota’s broader North American operations. The company also remains committed to manufacturing throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

State and local leaders praised the expansion as another sign of Texas’ strength as a destination for major employers.

Governor Greg Abbott called the investment a reflection of Texas’ skilled workforce and business-friendly environment.

“Texas is where the world builds bigger, and Toyota shows it once more with a $3.6 billion expansion in San Antonio that doubles their factory footprint and creates 2,000 new jobs,” Abbott said.

Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai noted that Toyota has been a trusted community partner for two decades, while San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said the expansion demonstrates the city’s ability to attract and support world-class manufacturers.

Once construction is complete, Toyota Texas will employ approximately 6,000 team members, supported by 23 on-site suppliers and thousands of additional jobs throughout the regional supply chain.

For nearly 20 years, Toyota Texas has produced award-winning trucks and SUVs, assembling more than 197,000 vehicles last year alone. The facility is currently the exclusive production home of the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia and is preparing to launch a new rear-axle facility later this year.

With Tacoma production coming to San Antonio, Toyota’s latest investment reinforces the city’s growing role in North American manufacturing while creating thousands of opportunities for local workers and contributing to the region’s long-term economic success.
