April Monterrosa is an award-winning entrepreneur, publisher, writer, media personality, author, speaker, and community advocate dedicated to
using storytelling to inform, inspire, and connect people. She is the founder and publisher of Live From The Southside, a woman-owned multimedia company and magazine headquartered in South San Antonio, Texas, that connects communities to opportunities, resources, and experiences through print, digital, television, radio, video, social media, newsletters, and community events.
With more than 20 years of experience in business, marketing, hospitality, wellness, and media, April has built a career focused on helping people, businesses, and organizations grow. What began with a passion for sharing positive community stories has grown into one of San Antonio’s leading multimedia brands, highlighting businesses, nonprofits, entrepreneurs, destinations, community leaders, and the people making a positive impact every day.
As the host of The April Monterrosa Show on KLMO 98.9 FM, April interviews business owners, nonprofit leaders, elected officials, authors, artists, musicians, and community changemakers, creating conversations that educate, inspire, and strengthen communities.
April is also an accomplished author whose books encourage personal growth, leadership, and lifelong learning. Her published works include Shine Beautifully: A Collection of Innermost Thoughts, Quotes & Poetry, and the children’s book Razoo in the Wetlands, inspired by her love of nature and by her desire to help children learn through storytelling.
Her commitment to community extends well beyond publishing. She founded the Southside Book Fair, created the Youth Writing & Media Program, launched San Antonio Latina Legacy, and continues to support literacy, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership development, and initiatives that create opportunities for future generations.
April is passionate about giving back through leadership and service. She has served on boards, advisory committees, and community organizations dedicated to small business, education, conservation, entrepreneurship, and community development, including the City of San Antonio Small Business Advisory Commission, Latina Leadership Institute Steering Committee, Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, Texas Motor Press Association, Brooks Gives Back, VIDA Arts Council, The Pink Berets, Palo Alto College Cosmetology Advisory Committee, and other civic and nonprofit organizations.
Her work has earned local, state, and national recognition for entrepreneurship, publishing, leadership, and community service. Among her honors are the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, recognition from the 87th Texas Legislature, the 2025 Express-News Women in Leadership Award, inclusion in the San Antonio Express-News “20 for 26”, the Hermana Award, and numerous other recognitions celebrating her commitment to uplifting communities through media and service.
Whether she’s publishing a magazine, interviewing community leaders, speaking at an event, mentoring entrepreneurs, or exploring a new Texas destination, April believes every story has the power to create opportunity, strengthen communities, and inspire positive change.
