Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones joined healthcare and community leaders on February 11, 2026, to celebrate the grand opening of Gonzaba Medical Group’s new Southeast Medical Center. This event marked a significant expansion of healthcare services in one of the city’s fastest-growing areas.
The 33,000-square-foot facility opened its doors at 1130 Goliad Rd. It brought comprehensive medical services to a neighborhood that holds special significance for the Gonzaba family. This location sits near the area where Dr. William “Bill” Gonzaba, the medical group’s president and founder, was raised.
The new Southeast Medical Center represented more than just a business expansion for Gonzaba Medical Group. In fact, it symbolized a commitment to serving the community where the organization’s roots began. Dr. Bill Gonzaba, who founded the medical group in 1960 with a vision of delivering quality medical care with integrity, saw the facility as a full-circle moment in the organization’s 66-year history.
The grand opening ceremony drew prominent city and county officials, including Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert. He joined the Gonzaba family leadership team for the ribbon-cutting celebration. Dr. Tom Gonzaba, vice president; Dr. Greg Gonzaba, medical director of the Northwest Medical Center; and Paco Gonzaba, executive director of business operations, were present to mark the milestone. In addition, Luis Rodriguez, CEO of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, also attended the event, which featured remarks from emcee Henry Pena. The development team, including Jason Puchot of RVK Architecture and Ryan Malitz of Malitz Construction, was recognized for delivering the project.
The facility housed 38 exam rooms and offered primary care, specialty care, laboratory services, and radiology—all under one roof. What set this location apart was its dedicated Senior Event Center and specialized Patient Advocate teams. As a result, these features reflect Gonzaba Medical Group’s coordinated care approach to senior healthcare that the organization had refined across its network of locations.
With the addition of the Southeast Medical Center, Gonzaba Medical Group operated 10 locations across San Antonio. This provided residents throughout the city with access to urgent care, a full suite of imaging, diagnostic, and laboratory services. The February 11 grand opening event ran from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Afterward, there was a reception and building tours that allowed attendees to explore the new facility’s state-of-the-art amenities.
The opening of the Southeast Medical Center reinforced Gonzaba Medical Group’s decades-long commitment to delivering affordable, quality healthcare while maintaining the patient-centered focus that Dr. Bill Gonzaba established more than six decades ago.
