EVENT BACKGROUND

Port San Antonio is our community’s thriving technology innovation destination – home to over 80 employers and more than 15,000 women and men from throughout our community who work here in some of the world’s leading industries, including aerospace, cybersecurity, robotics, applied technology, space exploration and defense, among others.

As it grows opportunities throughout the campus—including in careers, education and entrepreneurship—the Port team is committed to engaging people from across the region to highlight how they can participate in the exciting technologies that continue to evolve here.

An important part of this effort is the Port’s annual Fiesta de los Niños event, which is conducted in partnership with the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT), also based in the heart of the property.

For nearly two decades, Fiesta de los Niños has been an iconic part of our community’s springtime celebration. The daylong event is specifically tailored at delivering fun and excitement for families, and is particularly geared at engaging the youngest among us.

The daylong event has historically attracted over 10,000 people to the heart of the Port—easily accessible from U.S. 90 and just within 10 minutes from downtown. Admission and parking are free.

In addition to carnival rides for younger children (and many of those offerings will also be provided at no charge in 2022), visitors can also count on traditional Fiesta food and craft offerings.

Of special importance, throughout the event grounds and inside the adjacent SAMSAT exhibit hall, young children and their families will be able to participate in an array of tech-focused activities, including hands-on museum exhibits and activations provided by the Port’s industry and educational partners, including:

AEROSPACE – The Dee Howard Foundation, which in 2022 will have a special exhibit tent showcasing some of San Antonio’s leading aerospace innovations and educational programs.

ROBOTICS AND DRONES – Lutheran High School and Family Services Center, both FIRST in Texas champions, will be providing robotics demonstrations and static drone displays

ELECTRIC VEHICLES – teams from CAST STEM, Harlandale High School and Southwest Legacy will showcase their award-winning electric vehicles. Both teams designed, built and raced their vehicles in this year’s Alamo City Electrathon (ACE Race), hosted by the South Texas Business Partnership (formerly the South Chamber of Commerce).

ESPORTS – A Local Area Network (LAN) gaming tent will provide free computer stations for visitors to participate in an array of age-appropriate esports activities—providing families a taste of some of the offerings that will soon be available at the Port’s upcoming Tech Port Center + Arena, which will launch later this spring and be a leading destination for entertainment, technology, education and collaboration.
