The 3rd Annual District 3 Neighborhood Symposium was held this week, bringing together neighborhood association leaders, community advocates, and residents from across San Antonio’s South and Southeast sides. The event was a powerful reminder of the impact civic engagement can have on shaping the future of our local communities.

Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran delivered a heartfelt message of unity, appreciation, and encouragement to the attendees.

“Your presence reflects a strong commitment to our community. Together, we are laying the groundwork for a safer, stronger, and more connected District 3,” said Councilwoman Viagran.

Neighborhood Associations as Catalysts for Change

Neighborhood associations and homeowners associations play a vital role in improving the quality of life, advocating for resources, and fostering safer, more engaged communities. Their work often includes addressing local issues, organizing neighborhood events, and ensuring residents have a voice in the city’s planning and decision-making processes.

The Highland Hills Neighborhood Association hosted this year’s symposium. Dr. Hinojosa, the Association President, received special recognition from Councilwoman Viagran for his continued leadership and dedication in fostering collaboration and connection among neighbors.

City Budget Engagement and Community Priorities

As the City of San Antonio begins FY 2026 budget planning, Councilwoman Viagran took time to thank District 3 constituents for submitting their budget surveys and sharing their input through budget cards, workshops, and town halls.

District 3 priorities include:

  • Public safety

  • Infrastructure improvements

  • Animal care

  • Addressing homelessness

“Your input through budget cards, workshops, town halls, and direct communication with our office is what drives meaningful change,” Councilwoman Viagran emphasized. “You are the first to raise critical issues, and your engagement helps us find real solutions.”

Get Involved in Your Neighborhood

Residents interested in forming a Neighborhood Association can find resources and registration information through the City of San Antonio’s Association and Organization Registry website.

By working together and staying engaged, District 3 continues to build a more vibrant, resilient, and united community.
