Movie Theaters in the Southside of San Antonio
According to The Numbers, there were 137 movies released in theaters, in the U.S., in 2018. In addition, there were 1,345,719,877 movie tickets sold in theaters, in the U.S., in 2018. That’s a whole lot of people going to see movies. San Antonio’s South Side area features 4 movie theaters.
Cinemark McCreless Market– Cinemark Theaters, founded in 1984, is a movie theater chain with 541 theaters throughout the United States and Latin America. There are 89 theaters in Texas, with 2 of them being in San Antonio. Cinemark McCreless Market is located at the McCreless Corner Shopping Center, at 4224 South New Braunfels Avenue. Cinemark Theaters offers 2 popular rewards programs. Cinemark Connections, free, was introduced in 2016 and you earn points each time you purchase movie tickets and concession items. You can then redeem your points for digital downloads, movie swag and sweepstakes. Cinemark Movie Club, $8.99 a month, was introduced in 2017 and you get a free movie ticket, per month, to any 2D movie, as well as discounts on additional tickets and 20% off all concession items.

City Base Cinema– Located at 2623 SE Military Drive, City Base Cinema is an independently-owned multiplex that features Sony 4K projection and comfortable leather seats. The concession stand serves movie favorites like popcorn, candy, soda, nachos, Frito pie, hot dogs and mozzarella sticks. City Base Cinema also features a full bar, with a bar menu that includes spirits, cocktails and draft beer, as well as a café, with a menu that includes appetizers, burgers, pizzas, salads, sandwiches and desserts.
Mission Marquee Plaza– Mission Marquee Plaza, managed by the City of San Antonio’s Center City Development and Operations Department. The plaza was formerly known as the Mission Drive-In Theater. The Drive-In was in business from 1948-2000 and the Marquee Plaza was officially opened in 2014. The outdoor venue, open from March-November, features film screenings, cultural community events, as well as farmers and artisan open-air markets. The movies, shown on a jumbo screen, are part of the plaza’s Outdoor Movie Series. The schedule for the 2019 Outdoor Movie Series was released on February 1, 2019 and includes top movies from 2018, including Ralph Breaks the Internet and Black Panther; new movies from 2019, including Captain Marvel and Dumbo and movie classics, including the 1984 The Karate Kid and the 1986 Pretty in Pink. The Mission Marquee Plaza was voted The Best Place to Watch an Outdoor Movie, in 2017, by the San Antonio Current newspaper.
Santikos Mayan Palace– Santikos Entertainment, formerly called Santikos Theaters, is a movie theater chain that is based in San Antonio and is owned by the San Antonio Area Foundation. There are 8 locations throughout San Antonio, including the Mayan Palace location at 1918 SW Military Drive. The theater, featuring Mayan-inspired architecture, features 14 movie screens, a revolutionary theater audio system and luxury recliners. The concession stand offers theater classics, like popcorn, nachos, candy, pretzels and hot dogs. The theater café includes burgers, gyros, flatbreads, salads, pizzas and sandwiches. The movie theater also serves bottled and draft beers (domestic, imported), as well as a variety of wines (glass, bottle).
