Ceremony Celebrates Art, Healing, and Full-Circle Moments at Ma Hila’s Heart Children’s Cancer Foundation
The Mobile Education Center for All (MECA), a local San Antonio nonprofit dedicated to bringing art-based programs to underserved children, has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Genesis Inspiration Foundation. The announcement was made during a special grant ceremony at Ma Hila’s Heart Children’s Cancer Foundation, 8426 Fountain Cir, San Antonio, TX 78229.
The funding will support MECA’s art education programming, which uses creative expression to promote mental wellness and emotional resilience for students facing chronic absenteeism due to medical, emotional, or environmental challenges. While MECA’s programming is not clinical therapy, its art-based curriculum is designed to encourage healing, connection, and empowerment through creativity.
The venue for the ceremony was especially meaningful. MECA’s first student came from a Ma Hila’s Heart family, and many of the children served by the foundation were the original inspiration behind MECA’s founding. The celebration marked a full-circle milestone for the nonprofit.
“Art is such a powerful part of life,” said Sharon Samelson Massiatte, Founder and President of MECA. “It can lift spirits, tell untold stories, and help us heal in ways that words often cannot. This grant gives us the opportunity to share that gift with the children who need it most.”
The event included student art showcases, photo opportunities, and remarks from representatives of the Genesis Inspiration Foundation. Attendees witnessed the powerful impact of MECA’s work through the eyes and creativity of its young participants.
