East Central Independent School District Shines on Live from the Southside Magazine’s December Cover

East Central Independent School District takes the spotlight on the cover of the December 2023 Live from the Southside Magazine issue, showcasing its ongoing growth, diverse schools, educational opportunities, and commitment to preserving its rich traditions.

The magazine also proudly features articles contributed by students from the community participating in the Youth Writer’s Program. Students Paola Huerta-Ayala (10th grade) and Alicia Mendez (12th grade) from South San Antonio High School, and students Isaiah Martinez, Ryan Balzadua, Pierre Cox, Jozlin Hernandez, and Sophia Soto, representing The Patriot Publishing Journalism Club under the guidance of Teacher Veronica F. Hernandez. Student Nakoma Rojas from Riverside Park Elementary in the San Antonio Independent School District has also showcased their creative talents. The Youth Writer’s Program, launched alongside the publication, highlights the incredible creativity of the students, supported by dedicated faculty and teachers.

The issue further explores the inspiring journey of Alazay Gamboa, a recipient of the Texas A&M San Antonio Dream Maker Scholarship. The campaign raised an impressive $266,400, with 100% of the proceeds dedicated to supporting students.

Taking a moment to reflect, the magazine acknowledges the impactful work of the Fin Addict Angler Foundation. This nonprofit originated on the Southside and has expanded its mission throughout Texas, establishing several groups within Southside school districts.
