Bexar County Clerk’s Office Presented Proclamation Honoring Icons of Tejano & Norteño Music

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Bexar County Clerk’s Office, in partnership with the Bexar County Commissioners Court, presented a special proclamation officially recognizing the day as “Tribute to the Icons of Tejano & Norteño Music.”

Held at the Bexar County Commissioners Court inside the historic courthouse in downtown San Antonio, the proclamation honored the profound cultural legacy, musical influence, and historical impact of Tejano and Norteño artists whose work helped shape the sound and identity of South Texas and beyond.

Honoring the Legacy of Tejano & Norteño Music

The proclamation celebrated artists whose music has transcended generations, preserved cultural traditions, and amplified the voices and stories of the Latino community. Their contributions continue to influence contemporary music while honoring the roots of Tejano and Norteño heritage.

  • Elida Reyna
  • Michael Salgado
  • Little Joe
  • Flaco Jiménez (recognized posthumously through family)
  • Johnny Rodriguez (recognized posthumously through family)

  • David Lee Garza
  • Jay Perez
  • David Marez

Family members accepted recognitions on behalf of the late Flaco Jiménez and Johnny Rodriguez, underscoring the lasting impact their music continues to have on the community.
