The Historic Women’s Club of San Antonio hosted a sold-out monthly general meeting on Wednesday, January 7, welcoming Lucy Adame-Clark, Bexar County Clerk, as the featured guest speaker.
The afternoon blended fellowship and enrichment, offering members and guests lunch, shopping, and an engaging presentation celebrating civic leadership and the long-standing legacy of the Women’s Club of San Antonio.
Attendees gathered to hear Adame-Clark reflect on nearly three decades of public service and her historic election as the first Latina and first woman ever elected as Bexar County Clerk since the creation of the Republic of Texas.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Adame-Clark shared her deep personal connection to the community she serves. She is a mother of two and the wife of a sheriff’s deputy, and her experiences continue to shape her commitment to public service, accessibility, and community trust.
During her remarks, Adame-Clark emphasized her focus on modernizing county services while preserving Bexar County’s history. She discussed ongoing efforts to digitize the county’s historical records to ensure these documents remain accessible to residents, researchers, and future generations.
She also highlighted initiatives to improve public access and efficiency, including expanding mobile services that bring county
clerk resources directly to neighborhoods. Through these services, residents can access vital records, file new business names and licenses, and complete essential transactions more conveniently.
Additional advancements under her leadership include accepting credit card payments, a redesigned county website, and live chat available in 51 languages, all of which enhance inclusivity and access for Bexar County residents.
The meeting celebrated both the enduring legacy of the Historic Women’s Club of San Antonio and the continued impact of women leaders shaping the city’s future. It also provided firsthand insight from Adame-Clark, who has served Bexar County for 29 years and is up for reelection this year, as she reaffirmed her commitment to transparency, innovation, and expanded access in county government.
