San Antonio families are being encouraged to apply for the Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) program before the upcoming March 17 deadline. The program offers eligible families access to state-funded education accounts. These accounts can help cover a range of education-related expenses for the 2026–2027 school year.

Through the Texas Education Freedom Account program, families may receive funding to support their child’s educational needs, including private school tuition, tutoring services, instructional materials, therapies, and other specialized educational services. Depending on eligibility, families may receive up to $10,500 per student. Furthermore, up to $30,000 may be awarded for students with disabilities.

Community leaders across San Antonio are encouraging families to learn more about the program and apply before the deadline to ensure their children are considered for funding.

Who the Program Prioritizes

The Texas Education Freedom Account program prioritizes families who may need additional educational support. This includes households with children who have disabilities. It also includes families with income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

Recent statewide data shows that 35% of applicants are low-income families, highlighting the growing interest in the program among families seeking expanded educational opportunities.

Importantly, the program is not first-come, first-served. All eligible families who submit an application by the March 17 deadline will be considered within their priority category.

Key Information Families Should Know

Families only need to submit one application per household, even if applying for multiple children.

Participation in the Texas Education Freedom Account program does not affect federal benefits, including SNAP or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Families who qualify may receive both.

With the deadline quickly approaching, families are encouraged to review eligibility requirements and begin their application process as soon as possible.

Ways Families Can Get Help Applying

Families who would like assistance with the application process have several options available.

The official TEFA website provides eligibility information and the direct application portal at EducationFreedom.Texas.gov.

San Antonio families can also attend an in-person application assistance session at the Mission Branch Library. The session will take place on Friday, March 6, from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at 3134 Roosevelt Ave., San Antonio, TX 78214. Presentations will be held at 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Families may drop in at any time to receive one-on-one assistance and ask questions about the program.

Families seeking personalized guidance can also schedule a free consultation with the School Discovery Network, which offers one-on-one support to help parents understand their options and complete the application process.

Don’t Wait to Apply

With the March 17 deadline approaching, families are encouraged to gather the necessary documents and submit their applications as soon as possible. The Texas Education Freedom Account program could open the door to expanded educational opportunities for thousands of Texas students.
