Rashard Colquitt Named Head Football Coach at Sam Houston High School

San Antonio ISD has announced the hiring of Rashard Colquitt as the new Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Sam Houston High School, marking a new chapter for the Hurricanes football program following a district championship season.

Colquitt steps into his first head coaching role with a strong sense of purpose and momentum behind the program. He shared his excitement about leading a team that has already demonstrated success and potential.

“I am so proud to be named the head coach of the Sam Houston Hurricanes,” Colquitt said. “My goal is to continue to build the program, not just a team, but a program that is successful year after year.”

Under his leadership, Sam Houston football will take on a fast-paced identity. Colquitt plans to implement an up-tempo, spread offense paired with a defense focused on speed and physicality—an approach designed to keep the Hurricanes competitive and consistent.

Colquitt brings over a decade of coaching experience to San Antonio. Most recently, he served as offensive coordinator at Aldine Nimitz High School in the Houston area, where he spent the past four seasons. His coaching journey began at Coldspring-Oakhurst High School and includes stops at Nacogdoches ISD and Port Arthur ISD before joining Aldine Nimitz in 2022.

“I’m excited to be a part of the San Antonio ISD family,” Colquitt said. “I look forward to building relationships with everyone in the Sam Houston community, as well as the other coaches in our district.”

Colquitt officially begins his new role on April 6, as he looks to build on the Hurricanes’ recent success and establish a strong, lasting foundation for the program.
