At just 17 years old, Gabriella De Leon is already building a future grounded in purpose, culture, and determination. A student at Fox Technical High School in San Antonio, Gabriella represents the next generation of Latina leaders who are not only excelling academically but also embracing their identity with pride and intention.
Describing herself as hardworking, determined, and compassionate, Gabriella carries those qualities into every space she enters. For her, being Latina is deeply personal. It is about honoring a legacy of strong women, pushing past stereotypes, and showing what is possible through resilience and representation. Whether performing in Ballet Folklórico or with Mariachi Bonito Techalitlan, she stays connected to her roots and ensures her culture is reflected in everything she does.

Her greatest inspiration comes from her grandmother, Maria Lopez, whose sacrifices and work ethic shaped the foundation of Gabriella’s drive. From leaving school at a young age to support her family to building a life in the United States as a single mother, her grandmother’s story is one of resilience. That example continues to guide Gabriella as she pursues opportunities her grandmother once dreamed of.
Balancing academics, leadership roles, and extracurricular activities has not come without challenges. Learning to manage her time and maintain excellence across multiple commitments has strengthened her discipline and focus. Through those experiences, she has discovered that she is capable of more than she once imagined.
One of her proudest achievements includes being accepted into the Harvard Student Agency Anatomy and Physiology Academy, where she studied on campus and collaborated with peers from across the country. Her team earned Best Overall Presentation after analyzing and presenting a complex medical case study, a moment that affirmed her passion for medicine. She also earned recognition as a TSC Vocal Competition Finalist and placed second with her mariachi group, showcasing her talent both academically and artistically.
Through her involvement in Soy Latina, Gabriella has gained more than mentorship; she has found a sisterhood. The program has helped her develop confidence, leadership skills, and a commitment to uplifting others. With guidance and support from mentors like Mrs. Lisa Coleman, Gabriella is growing into the kind of leader she hopes to become for future generations.

Looking ahead, Gabriella plans to pursue a career in medicine, aiming to become a neonatologist. Inspired by her family’s experience with her premature brother, she is driven to provide care and support to families during some of their most critical moments. She hopes to attend a top university, serve in the military, and eventually attend Harvard Medical School.
Beyond her academic achievements, Gabriella is deeply involved in her community. She is a SEAT Fellow, Student Council Community Service Chair, Class of 2027 President, and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. She has volunteered with CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital and participates in the Holocaust Learning Experience, where she will travel internationally to further her studies. Throughout it all, she has maintained the number one rank in her class.
When faced with challenges, Gabriella stays grounded in the legacy she is building, not just for herself, but for the generations that will follow. Her message to other young Latinas is clear: be proud of your culture and never limit your dreams. With belief, discipline, and heart, anything is possible.
