Horror Cake Specialist from Southeast San Antonio on the Food Network

Sweet-toothed Halloween and horror fans definitely want to make friends with Justin Cakes. The creatively creepy cake business owner and operator Justin Dominguez was born and raised on the Southeast side of San Antonio, and still lives in the area.

Justin began baking in 2018 as a hobby- doing mostly birthday cakes. As his skills improved, he started to merge his love of Halloween and horror into his work. These days he still does mostly special occasions cakes, just more elaborate… and usually covered in some kind of ooze.

He is a proud Southeast side boy, who is hoping to shine more light on his side of town. He said; “We don’t always get enough credit, but we’ve got incredible talent in this side of town.”

“Like with any other small business, there are ups and downs. Especially in the beginning, building a baking business is doing a lot of baking for not much money, until your skills and products are at a high enough level that you can start charging what you’re worth”, he says.

This year Justin was cast on Halloween Baking Championship on the Food Network. Hosted by John Henson, who was the host, writer and co-executive producer of E! Entertainment’s Talk Soup, the show gives some of the country’s top bakers to create spooky, irresistible desserts to impress its panel of judges. The baker that impresses the judges most will be crowned champion and take home the prize of $25,000.

“It’s always been a dream of mine, and I got to check it off my bucket list this year”, Justin mentions.

Dominguez shared that he loves working with other businesses and artists. Want to show Justin Cakes support? You can support him by buying locally and visiting him at smaller bakers at markets. If you’d like to work or collaborate with Justin, contact him here.

On September 26th, 2022 Brooster’s Backyard Icehouse is hosting a Viewing Party to gather the community to support Justin Cakes while he competes in the Halloween Baking Championship on the Food Network.
