Mariachi Las Alteñas is one of Texas’s longest-standing all-female mariachi ensembles, founded in San Antonio in 2002 and celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2027. Known as “Texas’s Finest All-Female Mariachi,” Las Alteñas has spent more than two decades making waves and breaking barriers across the United States while raising the standard for women in mariachi music.
The ensemble is known for its musical diversity, powerful vocal harmonies, exceptional musicianship, and captivating stage presence. Las Alteñas brings together talented women who not only perform mariachi music but interpret each song with the goal of connecting its meaning and emotion with the audience. Their signature colorful trajes de charro, dynamic performances, and distinctive sound have helped establish the group as a memorable presence on stages throughout Texas and across the country.
Over the years, Mariachi Las Alteñas has earned recognition through performances and appearances on nationally recognized platforms, including Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, and Allure Magazine. The group has also been a two-time first-place champion of the Go Tejano Mariachi Competition and has been part of the Texas Commission on the Arts Official Touring Artist Roster from 2020 through 2026.
More than a musical ensemble, Las Alteñas represents the strength, talent, and diversity of women in mariachi. The group’s members are mothers, educators, students, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and community leaders who continue to make music a priority while inspiring the next generation of female mariachi musicians.
As Mariachi Las Alteñas approaches its 25th anniversary, the group is celebrating this milestone by recording a 25th Anniversary Album, scheduled for release in Spring 2027. The project honors the music, experiences, and legacy that have shaped Las Alteñas while looking toward the future of an ensemble that continues to redefine what is possible for women in mariachi.
