Grand Opening of STAAMP Allergy at Brooks City Base

Event Highlighted First Week of Spring, Allergy Awareness, and Honored Hispanic Innovators in STEM with Unveiling of Photography Installation

In a vibrant celebration of health, culture, and community, city leaders, elected officials, and representatives from the Hispanic Chamber and South Texas Business Partnership gathered to commemorate the grand opening of STAAMP Allergy’s newest clinic at Brooks City Base. Located at 3120 Sidney Brooks Drive, Suite 507A, the event underscored the importance of equitable healthcare access and marked a significant milestone in bringing expert allergy care to San Antonio’s Southside.

The day’s festivities included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of Nuestra Gente: A Tribute to Innovators and Dreamers, a large-scale photography installation by renowned artist Bernadette Peña. The art installation paid homage to trailblazing Hispanic innovators in STEM fields, bridging past pioneers with future generations.

Dr. Erika Gonzalez, CEO and President of STAAMP Allergy, addressed the crowd with heartfelt words, reflecting on the personal and professional journey that led her to this moment.

“STAAMP Allergy was founded on the belief that healthcare is more than just medicine—it is about the people, communities, and environments that shape our well-being,” said Dr. Gonzalez. “As the daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation American, I understand firsthand the barriers to accessing quality care. That is why I have dedicated my career to breaking down those barriers.”

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg echoed the importance of this expansion, emphasizing the clinic’s potential impact on the local community.

“Access to quality healthcare should not be determined by zip code,” said Mayor Nirenberg. “The opening of STAAMP Allergy at Brooks City Base is a significant step in ensuring that families on the Southside have the specialized care they deserve.”

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore Nuestra Gente, which brought together powerful visual storytelling with the mission of education and inspiration. Created in collaboration with STAAMP Allergy, the exhibit aims to ignite curiosity in STEM fields among young people, especially those from underrepresented communities.

“The unveiling of Nuestra Gente underscores the power of representation,” Dr. Gonzalez shared. “Through Bernadette Peña’s incredible work, we hope to inspire the next generation of scientists, medical professionals, and innovators while highlighting the profound contributions of our community.”

The event was held during the first week of spring, a timely reminder of allergy season’s peak. It served as a celebration and a platform for raising awareness about allergy symptoms, treatments, and preventive care. San Antonio continues to rank among the top 40 worst cities in the nation for allergy sufferers, according to the 2025 Allergy Capitals report by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

With its expansion into Brooks City Base, STAAMP Allergy has taken a meaningful step in closing the healthcare gap in underserved areas. The new clinic offers comprehensive allergy and immunology care, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to personalized, accessible treatment for all.
