Located in the heart of San Antonio’s historic Westside, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (GCAC) is one of the city’s most iconic and impactful arts institutions. Since 1980, this community-based nonprofit has been a national leader in preserving, promoting, and celebrating Chicano, Latino, and Native American arts and culture through music, dance, film, theater, literature, and visual arts.
A Rich History of Cultural Empowerment
Founded by a group of local artists in 1979 known as the Performance Artists’ Nucleus (PAN), GCAC created space for Latino voices in the arts. In 1984, the organization moved into the historic Teatro Guadalupe, a restored 1940s-era theater, which remains the cultural centerpiece of the center today.

The center also features the Progreso Community Gallery, showcasing community-inspired art exhibitions like “Portraits of Us,” a photo story celebrating San Antonio’s diverse residents.
