San Antonio is full of hidden gems and Denman Estate Park is one of them. The park is tucked in a residential area on the northwest side of town at 7735 Mockingbird Lane, 78229. The park is a perfect place to escape busy city life and taking a walk in a scenic, historical place is always an adventure. It’s also a great place for photo-shoots and picnics.
Denman Estate Park is full of trees, trails, has picnic tables to sit at, and a view of a hand-built Gwangju, Korean monument overlooking a pond. Korean craftsmen and artists traveled to San Antonio to assemble it.
The pavilion was designed to facilitate business and cultural friendships between the two cities, San Antonio, Texas and Gwangju, South Korea and was a gift from the South Korea people to the San Antonio people. In 2007, the City of San Antonio purchased 12.52 acres of the estate from philanthropist Gilbert Denman Jr., grandson of Leroy G. Denman, lawyer and jurist of the Texas Supreme Court.
In adjacent to the acreage, 7.70 acres were purchased by the University of Incarnate Word. The estate park opened as jointly used park and a retreat center for the University of Incarnate Word. The property is maintained by the City of San Antonio and the University of Incarnate Word.
Park amenities: .5-mile walking trail, pond, picnic benches and tables, parking, lighting, drinking water fountains, art sculpture, and lots of trees for shade.
