2025-2026 Grand Opening of Sam Houston High School Student Salon

The 2025-2026 Grand Opening of the Sam Houston High School Student Salon took place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, welcoming the community into the cosmetology program’s working salon. The event took place from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Sam Houston High School, located at 4635 E. Houston St., San Antonio, TX 78220, in the Career and Technical Education Building, which is closest to Loop 410.

During the event, community members toured the student-run salon and experienced complimentary beauty services. Two dozen student cosmetologists, all working toward their state certification while still in high school, provided free mini facials, hand massages, and facial waxing services. They also showcased their talents on mannequins, demonstrating hairstyling, coloring, and other techniques to highlight what the salon had to offer for its 2025-2026 season.

The cosmetology teacher and students welcomed neighbors, families, and guests, creating a professional salon atmosphere that reflected the hard work and dedication of the students. The event provided the community with a firsthand look at how the program not only nurtured technical skills but also prepared students for effective customer service and client interaction.

The Sam Houston Cosmetology program continued to serve the public with regular salon hours throughout the school year. Appointments were available on Tuesdays and Thursdays when students practiced on the clinic floor. A full list of services and online booking remained accessible at Hurricane Salon’s scheduling page.

Sam Houston was one of four high schools in the San Antonio Independent School District offering cosmetology certification, along with Brackenridge, Burbank, and Lanier High Schools. The program opened doors for students to enter high-paying jobs immediately after graduation, with many using their careers as a pathway to higher education.
