Hike and bike on the Southside! San Antonio Airport System (SAAS) and San Antonio Parks and Recreation officials, along with City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, unveiled the new Stinson Hike and Bike Trail on November 1, 2019. The new trail design connects the historic Mission Trail along the San Antonio River with Stinson Municipal Airport.
“This new hike and bike trail has been years in the making and I am grateful to see it come to fruition,” said Councilwoman Viagran. “I am excited that another new trail amenity is now open in District 3 that will welcome San Antonio families, cyclists, and tourists alike to complement all the work we have been doing with our local stakeholders at Stinson Airport.”
Stinson Municipal Airport holds a unique place in aviation history. The pioneering Stinson family established the Stinson School of Flying in 1915 and today the airport is the oldest continuously operated airport in the country. The airport serves as the general aviation reliever to San Antonio International Airport.
San Antonio City Council approved the Partner & Design Construction Agreement between the National Park Services and the City earlier this year.
