Bexar County marked October as Manufacturing Month with a special session held at the Commissioners Court on October 8th. The event showcased the county’s recognition of the industry’s vital role in driving the local economy. Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores presented a formal proclamation emphasizing the industry’s contributions to job creation, innovation, and community development.
David Marquez, Executive Director of Bexar County Economic Community Development, also took the stage to deliver a comprehensive presentation on the remarkable growth of the local manufacturing sector. He highlighted the Texas Mexico Automotive Super Cluster (TMASC) initiative, underscoring Bexar County’s pivotal regional and global manufacturing position. Marquez also emphasized the wide array of learning paths available for community members eager to build careers in manufacturing, offering opportunities to acquire essential skills through workforce development programs.
“Manufacturing is a cornerstone of our local economy, providing valuable careers and fostering innovation,” Commissioner Clay-Flores stated. “The upcoming $531 million expansion of Toyota is bringing more than 400 new jobs to Bexar County, and JCB’s $500 million investment will create 1,500 new jobs in Precinct 1. These investments and the contributions of a diverse range of other local manufacturers make us proud to celebrate Manufacturing Month. I encourage our community to explore the vast opportunities within this vital industry.”
