Since 2010, San Antonio-based flamenco company Arte y Pasión has fostered connections and cultural exchanges between Spanish flamenco artists and Americans, raising awareness of Spanish culture and the art of flamenco across Texas and the United States. This year, during We Flamenco Fest 2025, the company expanded its international footprint, sharing Texan culture and the passion for flamenco across the Atlantic.
Debut in Marrakech, Morocco
On November 11, 2025, Arte y Pasión made its debut in Marrakech, Morocco, presented by Fulbright Scholar Dr. Claudia Green during her paper “Flamenco for the Future: A Stakeholder Approach to Cultural Sustainability” at the 6th Marrakech International Conference. Sponsored by Nexus Lab Socio-Environmental Research and Innovation, the conference focused on sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and biodiversity.
Dr. Green highlighted Arte y Pasión’s role in transmitting and evolving flamenco from Spain to the United States, particularly through Texas. Company representatives Tamara Adira, Daniel Caballero, and Nerea Carrasco engaged the audience through discussions and a performance excerpt from their acclaimed production COLORES, emphasizing flamenco as a living, orally transmitted art form.
Celebrating the International Day of Flamenco
On November 16, 2025, Arte y Pasión celebrated the International Day of Flamenco with a mayoral proclamation and the performance “The Silk Road”. Featuring artists Genevieve Obregon, Jose Manuel Tejeda, Roberto Riggio, Celia Corrales, and guest Kathak dancer Tamanna Shams, the event included keynote addresses by Poet Laureate Emeritus Andrea Vocab Sanderson, Paula Sullivan, and Monalisa Montgomery. The performance, under the artistic direction of Tamara Adira, opened with the Viva Tejana Dance Company and concluded with a community fiesta, featuring San Antonio dancers.
Virtual Screenings Connect Global Audiences
Arte y Pasión continued its cultural outreach on November 23, 2025, with virtual screenings of GRITOS DE LOS ARBOLES (2021) and SONIDOS DE LIBERTAD (2025). Audiences from Spain, San Francisco, San Antonio, and Mexico attended the screenings, participated in panel discussions with the artists, and fostered an international dialogue on flamenco.
Flamenco Exchange in Sevilla, Spain
On November 30, 2025, Arte y Pasión hosted a flamenco tablao performance in Sevilla, Spain, strengthening artistic ties between Texas and Spanish artists. Featured performers included Tamara Adira, Jun Nakahara, Natalia De Triana, Carmen De Conde, and Alec Willis, alongside international artists from Japan, Chile, Spain, and Texas.
Preserving Flamenco Across Continents
Flamenco, inscribed by UNESCO in 2010 as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity, originated in Andalusia, southern Spain. Arte y Pasión has been instrumental in carrying flamenco’s unique storytelling tradition across Texas for over 16 years, ensuring its preservation and continued evolution in the United States. We Flamenco Fest serves as a vital platform for sharing this art form globally, and Arte y Pasión’s 2025 programs exemplify the festival’s commitment to cultural exchange and artistic sustainability.
