VIDA San Antonio recently celebrated the Madla Greenway Trail anniversary with a vibrant community event, “Rock the Madla.” Residents painted inspiring messages, icons, and characters on rocks, which were placed along the one-mile trail next to Texas A&M-San Antonio off University Way.
The greenway is more than a scenic path—it supports local biodiversity, offers recreational opportunities, and connects residents with nature, reinforcing VIDA’s commitment to building a thriving, sustainable community.
“Greenspaces are critical for building a strong sense of community where residents can gather, relax, and exercise,” said Kristi Robinson, Southstar Vice President, Marketing and Community Relations. “Celebrating the Madla in this way shows how much our residents enjoy the 40+ acres of green space at VIDA while creating memories with neighbors.”
Connecting Community and Nature
VIDA San Antonio’s Madla Greenway reflects a dedication to community engagement and environmental stewardship. Key highlights include:
-
Educational opportunities: Developed with Texas A&M-San Antonio’s Department of Life Sciences, the trail doubles as a living lab for field studies.
-
Low-impact design: Utilizes natural features to manage stormwater runoff and minimize environmental disruption.
-
Sustainable trail: Constructed with recycled asphalt, which is porous, eco-friendly, and soft for runners.
-
Historic preservation: The trail preserves over 100-year-old live oaks and maintains natural flora to protect local ecosystems.
-
Repurposed boulders: Stones from the development were transformed into seating areas along the trail.
The second mile of the Madla Greenway is under development, with completion expected in Spring 2027. Once finished, the trail will cover 35 acres and connect VIDA to San Antonio’s citywide trail system.
VIDA San Antonio: A Growing Mixed-Use Community
In its third year of development, VIDA San Antonio continues to expand as a mixed-use, family-friendly community:
-
650 developed homesites (450 occupied)
-
Sitterle Townhomes, offering diverse housing options
-
Los Arcos at VIDA, a 324-unit apartment complex and the first apartments under the city’s Strategic Housing Implementation Plan
-
Five parks and two public art installations
-
University Health’s 68-acre campus, including the VIDA Clinic, Institute for Public Health, and the 167-bed Palo Alto Hospital
With a projected development cost of $1.7 billion, VIDA San Antonio is expected to generate $3.4 billion in economic output and create nearly 22,000 jobs over the next 20 years.
