How Jaime Vasquez Turned Small-Town Values and Big Dreams Into a Dual Career of Impact
In a world that often demands we choose one path, Jaime Vasquez—better known as DJ J-Me®—proves that passion and perseverance can fuel multiple callings. By day, Vasquez is a respected Senior Branch Manager and Vice President at Sunflower Bank. By night, he transforms into DJ J-Me®, a high-energy entertainer who commands dance floors across the Texas Hill Country. His story is one of heart, hustle, and hometown pride—a blend of small-town values and big-time ambition.
Hill Country Roots and Heart
Born and raised in Kerrville, Texas, Vasquez is deeply connected to his roots. Known for its scenic beauty and iconic hometown businesses like H-E-B and James Avery, Kerrville shaped Vasquez into the community-driven leader he is today. Even after a brief move to San Antonio for work, the pull of family and familiarity brought him back home.
“There’s just something special about going to the grocery store and running into everyone—and their mother,” Vasquez laughs. “That hometown feeling, where people know your name and genuinely care, is something you can’t replicate.”
Vasquez, the youngest of six siblings, credits his close-knit upbringing for his resilience and strong sense of identity.
From Teller to Vice President
Vasquez’s career in banking began at age 18 when he was hired as a floating teller at Wells Fargo. He advanced through the ranks without a college degree by consistently showing up, forming authentic relationships, and delivering excellent service. Now with more than 15 years of experience, he leads teams in both Kerrville and San Antonio and is known for his empathetic leadership and mentorship.
“I didn’t take the traditional path,” he shares. “But I’ve always believed in the power of consistency and connection.”
The DJ Behind the Desk
While banking pays the bills, music fuels Vasquez’s soul. His alter ego, DJ J-Me®, emerged from a spontaneous night helping friends and quickly evolved into a full-fledged business. Along with his brother Richie and close friend Ed Uballe, who emcees most events, Vasquez performs at weddings, quinceañeras, school dances, and community events. His company also partners with the City of Kerrville on signature events like the Daddy & Daughter and Mommy & Son dances.
In 2024, he extended his brand into radio, co-hosting two weekend shows on KLMO 98.9 FM that quickly gained traction on social media. Though he’s currently stepped back from the airwaves, he credits the Lopez Broadcasting team for the opportunity and hints he may return.
Building a Brand—and Protecting It
One of Vasquez’s proudest moments came not on stage or in a boardroom, but in a legal office. After a veteran DJ challenged his use of the name DJ J-Me, Vasquez chose to fight for what he had built. He filed for a trademark, navigated an 18-month legal process, and ultimately won the rights to the name.
“That moment was about more than a name,” he reflects. “It was about standing firm and protecting what I’ve built. I’ve worked too hard to let anyone rewrite my story.”
A Life Grounded in Love
Vasquez’s life is grounded by love and loyalty outside of work and performance. Since Christmas Eve 2024, he has been in a committed relationship with Jessie, a licensed vocational nurse currently studying to become a registered nurse. The couple, who have been best friends for nearly eight years, share their life with two dogs: Boo, a 13-year-old chihuahua, and Dexter, a 9-year-old schnauzer.
“She’s the most selfless, supportive person I know,” Vasquez says.
Lessons, Loyalty, and Legacy
Despite his success, Vasquez hasn’t been immune to challenges. In small-town life, jealousy and gossip can follow anyone who stands out. He’s experienced tension even within his own family, but the key to his longevity is protecting his peace and staying true to his purpose.
Through Hill Country Vasquez Promotions, he continues to give back by supporting local events and artists, mentoring up-and-comers, and keeping the Kerrville community at the heart of everything he does.
From graduating high school—something none of his siblings did—to sharing stages with acts like Grupo Siggno, Lucky Joe, and Elida Reyna, Vasquez’s journey is a testament to determination and self-belief.
“I’ve made mistakes, sure,” he says. “But I keep learning, keep moving, and give it everything I’ve got.”
Living Proof That Dual Dreams Are Possible
Whether helping clients navigate financial decisions or packing dance floors with infectious beats, Jaime Vasquez brings the same energy, integrity, and love for people to everything he does. His story challenges the idea that success requires a sacrifice of identity or passion.
“Don’t wait for the perfect moment,” he advises. “Take the chance, bet on yourself, and trust that you’re capable of more than you think. Stay grounded, protect your peace, and keep moving forward—especially when it’s hard.”
Jaime Vasquez is living proof that you don’t need a big city to chase big dreams—just a big heart, hard work, and a whole lot of soul.
