East Central High School is excited as Marisa Mejia, a distinguished member of the Varsity Choirs, gears up to showcase her vocal prowess with the Texas All-State Mixed Choir. The much-anticipated performance is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio. This event is a significant highlight of the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention.

Marisa’s journey to this prestigious platform was no easy feat; she earned her spot through a highly competitive process that unfolded across the state’s District, Region, and Area levels. This marks Marisa’s third appearance as a member of a TMEA All-State organization, a testament to her consistent dedication and musical excellence. Proud parents Nelson and Elizabeth Mejia celebrate their daughter’s achievements as she continues to make her mark in the world of music.

Participation in the All-State concerts is a pinnacle achievement for Texas music students, and Marisa is among the 1,875 students selected through a rigorous process. The journey began with over 70,000 students from across the state, all vying for the honor to perform in one of the 18 ensembles.

The Texas Music Educators Association sponsors the Texas All-State competition, commencing with auditions in 33 TMEA Regions. Participants perform selected pieces for a panel of judges, with the highest-ranking musicians advancing to compete in eight TMEA Area competitions. Only the crème de la crème, the top 2.6% of initially auditioning musicians, earn the coveted title of All-State musician.

The culmination of this incredible journey sees All-State students engage in four days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the TMEA Clinic/Convention. Their performances, witnessed by thousands of attendees, bring this extraordinary event to a close, leaving an indelible mark on the musical landscape.

As Marisa Mejia takes center stage, she represents East Central High School and exemplifies the dedication and talent thriving within Texas’s vibrant music education community. The Texas All-State Mixed Choir is in for a treat, with Marisa’s voice poised to captivate and inspire all fortunate enough to witness her performance on this grand stage.
