Mural Ride Bike Tours to Activate Historic Tynan-Sweeney House at Hemisfair

Mural Ride Bike Tours has been selected as the new tenant for the historic Tynan-Sweeney House at Hemisfair. This brings a unique blend of art, mobility, and community engagement to downtown San Antonio. The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) announced the locally owned company will transform the space into a vibrant hub. This hub connects people to the city’s culture through cycling and storytelling.

The concept includes an indoor gallery, local retail, and The Spoke Spot, a multipurpose space. The Spoke Spot offers bike valet, e-bike and e-scooter charging, and outdoor art programming. Importantly, the activation aligns with Hemisfair’s mission to create a dynamic public space rooted in authentic San Antonio experiences.

Mural Ride is known for its guided and self-guided bike and walking tours. These tours highlight the city’s street art, historic neighborhoods, and creative culture. The new Hemisfair location will serve as its headquarters. It will host rotating art exhibits, live mural painting, music, workshops, and community gatherings.

HPARC CEO Melissa Robinson shared that Mural Ride enhances the Hemisfair experience. It does so by offering immersive ways for both locals and visitors to explore San Antonio’s creative landscape.

Owner Brian Gregory Benavidez said the move marks a major milestone for the business. It creates a permanent home to spotlight local artists, brands, and the city’s growing cycling culture.

The project preserves the historic character of the Tynan-Sweeney House, a structure dating back to approximately 1868. At the same time, it introduces modern, creative elements. The building is located near E. Nueva Street, across from La Villita. Notably, it is considered a rare example of vernacular architecture.

Supported in part by a $942,997 federal Community Project Funding grant, the rehabilitation of the property reflects continued investment in Hemisfair’s growth. Construction is expected to begin in Q2 2026. A public opening is planned later in the year.

As Hemisfair continues to evolve, Mural Ride adds to its identity as a destination. It becomes a place where art, culture, and community come together in the heart of San Antonio.
