Empowering Our Community Through Literacy, Creativity, and Financial Literacy
At Live from the Southside, we are proud to champion initiatives that uplift and empower our community’s youth and local businesses. Our commitment is rooted in fostering literacy, education, creativity, financial awareness, and community connection across San Antonio.
Little Library Literacy Initiative
Access to books is essential, yet many rural areas on the Southside lack libraries and educational resources. Our Little Library Literacy Initiative addresses this gap by installing small, free “take-one, leave-one” libraries at local businesses and neighborhoods — making books accessible to all children and families.
Youth Writing Program & Financial Literacy
We invite students in grades 3-college age to share their voices through creative writing and financial literacy education. Published monthly on livefromthesouthside.com and in our magazine, this program boosts confidence, encourages self-expression, and develops vital communication and money-management skills. Sponsored by Soarion Credit Union, the program helps young writers grow academically and personally.
Contributing Writers Initiative
Our Contributing Writers initiative works closely with community members to share authentic stories, neighborhood happenings, and important voices from across the city. This program connects writers with a broader network, giving them a platform to highlight community events, issues, and successes — fostering deeper engagement and unity.
Community Events
-
Southside Market Days: A monthly indoor event where local businesses sell their merchandise, network, and connect with community members.
-
Southside Book Fair: Now in its fourth year, this annual event celebrates literacy, supports local authors, and strengthens our Southside literary community while backing the Southside Literacy Initiative.
Together, these initiatives create pathways for education, creativity, financial empowerment, and community connection. Join us in supporting our youth and local businesses — because a thriving community begins with empowered individuals.
