City Offers Property Tax Workshops in Multiple Languages
Homeowners across San Antonio have another opportunity to better understand their property taxes and potentially save money. The City is hosting a series of Property Tax Help workshops designed to guide residents through available exemptions and the process of protesting their home’s appraised value.
These workshops will run through May 14, giving homeowners time to take action before the May 15 protest deadline. Attendees can receive assistance on-site, including filing their notice of protest and applying for exemptions.
Each session begins with an overview led by Texas True Tax, followed by one-on-one support from representatives who can answer questions and help complete forms. This hands-on approach ensures homeowners leave with clarity and, in many cases, completed paperwork.
The May 14 workshop stands out for its expanded accessibility. Presentations and assistance will be available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Arabic. Spanish and ASL interpretation will also be provided during the English-language session, reflecting the City’s continued effort to serve a growing and diverse population.
Veronica Garcia, Director of the City’s Neighborhood and Housing Services Department, emphasized the importance of this expansion, noting that increasing language access allows more families to benefit from critical resources as the city continues to grow.
Doors open 30 minutes before each event, and attendees are helped in the order they arrive. Because assistance depends on available volunteers, capacity may be limited, so arriving early is encouraged.
Representatives from the Bexar Central Appraisal District will be present at workshops to answer questions and accept filings on-site. Staff from the Tax Assessor’s Office will also be available to provide guidance on payment plans.
Homeowners are encouraged to bring relevant documents to make the most of their visit. A full list of recommended materials, along with additional resources, can be found on the City’s Property Tax Help webpage. Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters will be available at every session.
For those unable to attend in person, recorded spring presentations are available online at sa.gov/propertytaxhelp.
