WHAT: Students from area high schools built single-passenger electric cars using 73 lbs. of Lead Acid Batteries and will race them in an energy-endurance race.  This year we have participants joining from as far as Louisiana.

MORE:   Corporate partners from the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to host the annual Alamo City Electrathon (ACE) Race at the Alamodome.  CPS Energy, Port San Antonio, HOLT CAT, & other sponsors have joined the South Chamber in their mission to raise awareness and support STEM education programs and workforce development.

This year’s number of participants is more than double in size since the inaugural ACE Race in 2017.

This years teams include students from East Central ISD, Southwest ISD, Somerset ISD, Edgewood ISD, Northside ISD, SAISD, STEM Early College HISD, & teams visiting from Ruston, Louisiana.

Before students hit the track, each vehicle will undergo a series of inspections from corporate volunteers and the students will make a presentation on their work. In addition to each school participating in the stock car competition, schools have also fielded cars in the open car category, allowing them to custom build a vehicle. The vehicles compete in two heats. The 60-minute heats are held on a closed course to see who can run the most laps using only 1,000 Watt-hours of electricity.

Winners will be announced that afternoon.
