Youth Writing Program

Live From the Southside Youth Writing Program

Do you have students that love to express themselves? Are you looking for ways to motivate students to write more? Creative writing can be defined as “A form of writing that expresses writer’s feelings, emotions, experiences, ideas, or thoughts obtained at a conscious or subconscious level.”

Local South San Antonio students in Grades 3-12 are invited to become contributing writers to the “Youth Writing Program” and be featured as published journalists on livefromthesouthside.com and our magazine. This is also a great opportunity for extra credit programs or classroom challenges among students.

Benefits of Creative Writing for Children:

  • Boosts self-confidence
  • Boosts thinking skills
  • Develops reading, writing, and language skills
  • Encourages self-expression
  • Fosters imagination
  • Improves communication skills
  • Improves vocabulary
  • Unleashes creativity

Students can submit anything from personal essays, poems, songs, speeches, and nonfiction family-friendly pieces up to 300 words. Up to 4 images per piece can be submitted as well. Submissions should include the writer’s full name, the teacher’s name, the school name, and the district. The deadline for submissions is the 12th of each month.
