Getting a San Antonio Public Library card just got easier. San Antonio residents age 18 and older can now register online for a free, full-service library card and start using library resources in minutes.
You can add the new digital card to an iOS or Android smartphone wallet. If you already have a library card, you can add it to your digital wallet while keeping your current card number. Carrying your card on your phone gives you another convenient way to have it ready when you visit the library.

A San Antonio Public Library card opens access to more than two million items, including books, eBooks, vinyl records, magazines and audiobooks. Cardholders can also explore streaming movies and music, free homework help and other online resources. Whether you’re looking for your next read, helping a student with schoolwork or trying something new, the library offers plenty to discover.
“This new online registration system will remove barriers for San Antonio residents, making it easier to sign up and start using the library in minutes,” said Library Director Sukrit Goswami.
Previously, people who signed up for an online card had access to digital collections for 90 days and had to visit a library location to finish registering. The new digital library card provides full access to library resources for five years.
To qualify for online registration, you must live within San Antonio city limits. Bexar County residents who live outside city limits can still visit a library location to get a San Antonio Public Library card.
You don’t need a card to attend library programs and events. SAPL offers about 12,000 free programs and events each year, giving families and neighbors more ways to learn and connect.
