The San Antonio Botanical Garden will celebrate art, culture, and Mexican tradition this fall with the debut of Jardín de las Catrinas, a new exhibition created by San Antonio-based artist Regina Moya.
The exhibition will be on display throughout the Garden from September 15 through November 2, 2026. Guests will encounter eight towering Catrinas measuring up to 16 feet tall, surrounded by more than 10,000 marigolds and hundreds of living plants.
Moya is a Mexican writer, illustrator, and public artist known for her colorful murals, sculptures, and Día de los Muertos-inspired artwork found throughout San Antonio. Her work celebrates culture, memory and the stories that connect communities.
Each Catrina featured in the exhibition has a unique design inspired by nature, Mexican traditions, and refranes, traditional sayings that carry wisdom passed down through generations. The living artwork will continue to change alongside the plants used in each sculpture, creating a different experience throughout the exhibition’s run.
“Jardín de las Catrinas is a celebration of the stories that connect us to each other and to nature,” said Katherine Trumble, president and CEO of the San Antonio Botanical Garden. “Regina Moya has created something truly extraordinary, living artwork that is changing right alongside the plants that make up each individual sculpture. We’re honored to bring her vision to the Garden and share such a meaningful piece of San Antonio’s cultural heritage with our community.”
The Garden will also present several special events inspired by Jardín de las Catrinas. On September 19, guests ages 21 and older can participate in the seasonal Cocktail Scavenger Hunt: Mezcal and Marigolds. The experience includes an opportunity to explore the exhibition while sampling bites paired with a signature Cempasúchil cocktail.
That same evening, the Garden will host Botanical Garden Date Night: Noche de las Catrinas, featuring live music by Nina & The Gypsies, hands-on activities, and craft cocktails available for purchase.
Jardín de las Catrinas offers San Antonio residents and visitors an opportunity to experience larger-than-life art while celebrating the traditions, stories, and natural beauty that make the city’s culture special.
