Alegrías are a perfect blend of sweet and crunchy, offering a taste of rich cultural heritage in every bite.
This culinary workshop is guided by Chef Reb Mari, a Two-Spirit Tejana dedicated to ancestral healing through food. As the co-founder and CEO of Sana Roots Co., a nonprofit, she empowers youth and communities through education and mentorship centered on traditional foodways in San Antonio.
1) Learn about the origins of this treat and its significance in Aztec culture.
2) Get step-by-step guidance on how to properly pop amaranth and roast seeds.
3) Experiment with various ingredients such as nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and sweeteners to create your unique version.
4) Take your alegrías home and enjoy, along with the knowledge and confidence to recreate them anytime you like.
