Guided Bird Tours Sunday, April 3, 10, 17, and 24 Every Sunday morning at 8:00am FREE for Members | $10 for General In Person | Registration Required Register here: https://mitchelllake.audubon.org/events .

On this guided bird tour around the various habitats of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, guests will see at least 30-50 different bird species with our expert guide. Travelling by both car and by foot to access as many areas as possible, this tour is best suited for the birder age 15+ as it can last up to four hours, though you may leave at any time. Tours are currently limited to a total of 10 participants with masks strongly recommended. Bring your binoculars, bottle for water, closed toe shoes, long pants, and bug spray

Join us and other members of the community to help us clean up our habitat! We depend on our amazing volunteers to help manage our habitat. This can involve trail maintenance, removal of invasive species, and planting native plants for birds and butterflies depending on the tasks of the day. All training provided. Groups are welcome! All children 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. 

Migratory Bird Fest Community Open House Saturday, April 23 8:00am-3:00pm FREE Come out and join us for our Migratory Bird Fest Community Open House! Take a stroll through our native plant gardens, enjoy a story time and craft for kids, and fun self-guided nature activities while you take in the peaceful outdoors at Mitchell Lake

There’s no better place for learning how to bird. At Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, we host 300+ birds annually on our 1,200acre sanctuary which includes four diverse habitats for our wildlife: wetlands, woodlands, brushlands and grasslands. Join us every fourth Saturday for Bird Tours designed for the beginning birder. Travelling by foot, your guide will go over birding identification and the proper use of binoculars. This is a family-friendly program best for ages 5+. Advanced birders are also welcome to attend. 

City Nature Challenge at Night Friday, April 29 5:30 – 7:30pm FREE for Members | $5 for General In Person | Registration Requested 

There is nature all around us, even in our cities! Bring your smartphone and help us participate in the City Nature Challenge Community Science Event and document the species here at Mitchell Lake. There will be an introduction to the app iNaturalist and how to document what you find, information on our native plant gardens and how to attract native birds and insects, and then time to explore Mitchell Lake after hours and help scientists learn what is living in our city.

There are few better ways to attract birds to your backyard than by incorporating native plants in your landscape. Join the staff of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center for an introduction to high value native plants in San Antonio. During this beginner level workshop, we will discuss the benefits of native plants and their benefits for both birds and people! You will come away from this presentation with practical suggestions for plants to incorporate into your landscape in San Antonio, as well as ideas for additional garden features to help create an inviting space for birds.
